The caller claimed to be from HSBC fraud department, but after I phoned them back and spoke to someone with a Indian accent, he hung up on me, I then reported it to the official HSBC helpline
The problem with this number is that it claims to be from First Direct, but the caller's use of a non-First Direct number and strong Indian accent raises suspicions, as First Direct does not operate call centres in India.
Following a call from this number, I contacted First Direct to verify its authenticity, and they confirmed it was not associated with their company, indicating fraudulent activity.

This is a legitimate HSBC call. I verified it by calling back using the number on my card.
Despite the voicemail message sounding like a scam, this number is actualy used by the HSBC and First Direct fraud department, I rang First Direct to verify and they had declined a payment I requested due to suspision of fraud.

I rang back, curious if it might genuinely be First Direct, but like others, I was displeased when the person on the other end asked for details without providing any proof of authenticity. I ended the call and contacted First Direct through their official number, and they confirmed it was a legitimate fraud check. I feel much more at ease handling this through the proper FD channel rather than responding to this number, and I'd advise others to do the same to avoid potential scams.

Received a call on my mobile but didn't answer. They left a message saying it's not marketing and it's important to talk. They didn't mention HSBC or use my name. I checked with HSBC using the number on my card, and they confirmed it's a scam. Genuine calls from them have a reference number, which this one didn't.
Following my previous report, in which I incorrectly identified this number as a scam, I discovered that it actually belongs to FIRST DIRECT, a subsidiary of the HSBC group, with which I have accounts; the recorded message, although suspicious, was legitimate, and a call to them resolved the issue of a delayed payment
