Opinia eksperta
Imagine receiving a call from 0208 780 4180 with the caller claiming to be a Metropolitan Police officer. In many cases the number is indeed used by the force for follow‑up on recent reports, but scam actors also spoof it to harvest personal data. Always check the caller’s name on the screen, ask for a reference number and then hang up. Call the legitimate non‑emergency line 101 to confirm any request, especially if you are asked for bank details, passwords or to make a payment. Never share sensitive information with an unsolicited call, and report suspicious calls to your local police.

The Metropolitan Police use this number; if you receive an unexpected call, it's likely because someone has shared your number with them

A voicemail message claimed to be from the police, requesting I call 101 to arrange an appointment regarding a reported crime, but I hadn't reported any crime, indicating a potential scam.

Nighttime calls from this number are disruptive
Someone claiming to be from the police mentioned a 'person.' This happened after calls from a man and a woman the night before, saying my number was linked to a missing person (Andrew). These scammers are unintelligent and their actions are disturbing.
Belongs to the police department
This number is supposedly from the police. Scammers might be spoofing it, but they’re taking a risk by copying a police number. This number is for outgoing calls only and doesn’t accept return calls. A lot of people posting here don’t seem very informed.
i returned the call hoping it was someone i know, Clare Friel
