It turned out to be a scam; the caller pretended to be from EE, warned that my SIM would be cancelled and asked for personal details, even though I've never been an EE customer, so I gave them a piece of my mind. It was definately a dodgy call.

Following a previous warning, the caller pretended to be from EE, warned that my SIM would expire tomorrow and asked me to confirm my number – which I said was the one they were calling – then insisted on sending a text code. I hung up, later received a genuine EE message telling me not to share any code, confirming the call was a fraud. Stay alert.
A woman asked me to confirm whether I was using an EE SIM. When I said no, she probed for my actual provider, and I hung up. Clearly a scam.
They pretended to be from EE, saying my account would be closed because I was using an obsolete SIM. They also sent a text urging me to open it and download something. Naturally, I ignored it – I don’t even have an EE account.
