I got a ring on my EE mobile at 15:35 on Wednesday 4 June from an unknown Meriden number; no voicemail was left, so I ignored it – classic cold‑call.
I received a call on my EE mobile from someone claiming to be from EE Promotions, offering a discount on my monthly mobile and broadband bills plus a free smartwatch. They already knew my name, address, DOB, EE account number, direct debit and bank details. The emails and texts they sent during the call looked official. They asked to take £50 from my debit card, hold it for 24 hours, then refund it after I received the gift, which they said would arrive the next day. After the call I phoned EE to verify, and they confirmed it was not them – a very convincing scam. Please stay vigilant.
