Because I had never heard of them, I declined. He insisted that HMRC would have sent a letter warning of the call, but I still refused. He then suggested calling back once the letter arrived, and when I pressed for details he wouldn't explain the purpose. The male voice had a Liverpool accent.

During my first visit to England, I received a call claiming I owed money to a government agency; despite explaining I was a tourist, the caller persisted, suggesting fraud.

When they pressed for my job role I declined, and after I asked for the purpose of the call and the company's name – including what "DRS" meant – they refused to provide details, only promising a letter if I suggested email.

On my mobile, the caller ID flags this number as "Suspected SCAM". Hiya usually catches suspicious calls accurately. Over the last half‑year I’ve been bombarded with calls, texts and emails from it, all pretending to be about HMRC issues. It’s incredibly irritating and they even leave an email address.
