Microsoft impersonation scam: How to protect yourself! - +349 (349)
Block the unfamiliar +349 number right away to stop further nuisance. Most of these calls are spam attempts that spoof legitimate brands like Microsoft, PayPal, or banks to trick you into sharing personal data or pressing buttons. Even if the voice sounds official, verify the claim through the company’s official channels before responding. Use your phone’s built‑in call‑blocking feature or a reputable third‑party app to filter unknown international prefixes. Keep your voicemail clean—if a call leaves a vague automated message, treat it as suspicious and delete it. Regularly review your account statements for unauthorized activity and report any fraud to your carrier.

The lack of a message on the answerphone from this caller raises suspicions about the intent behind the call.
A suspicious automated call claiming to be from Visa security alerted me to purported transactions - £### for an Amazon purchase and £1,### for a Western Union transfer - and instructed me to 'Press 1' to report these transactions, bearing all the hallmarks of a scam. It's alarming that such calls are allowed, especially given that 00349 is not a valid area code, and I believe my phone provider, BT, should be held accountable for permitting these calls to go through.
