The voice sounded American but the accent changed when a live person answered, and the caller ID number (+18557281391) was spoofed. Callers often avoid using the recipient’s name and pressure you to act quickly, classic signs of a spoofed scam. If you have student loans, verify any outreach by contacting your loan servicer directly through official channels. Never share personal or financial details over a callback number you didn’t initiate. Keep a log of suspicious numbers and report them to the FTC or your carrier.

After receiving the same call, I decided to respond because I have existing loans, only to be told my income was too high for loan forgiveness; the voicemail featured an American-sounding female, while the person I spoke to had an accent, and I was cautious not to disclose any sensitive information beyond my loan amount.
That's not entirely accurate
The scammer left a message, but what's amusing is that the number in the message doesn't match the one on the caller ID, and to make matters more absurd, I don't even have student loans.
