Yesterday afternoon, a surge of calls claimed to be from PSEG, warning that electric service would be shut down today. This pattern matches classic utility scam tactics that pressure recipients with urgent threats. Hang up immediately and verify any outage notice through the official PSEG website or your account portal—not the phone number that called you. Do not share personal or payment information over the phone unless you initiated the call to a verified number. If you suspect fraud, report the incident to the FTC and your local consumer protection agency. Keeping a log of the call details can help authorities track the source.
