AEP scam calls: How to protect yourself! - +1 800-672-2231 ((800) 672-2231)

The caller ID was spoofed to appear as if it was from aep.

A message was left claiming to be from the AEP electric company in Ohio, discussing tree trimming, but the caller is using a spoofed 800 number and I am not an Ohio resident.

We recieve calls regarding AEP, but we dont actualy have AEP

This experience was suspicious from the start, as the caller hung up without leaving a message and appeared on my phone as AEP. After calling them back, the agent's unhelpful response raised more questions than answers. With my phone and accounts having been compromised since August 2019, I'm naturally cautious about such incidents. The lack of explanation or notes in their system regarding my account or outages was alarming. Following the unfruitful conversation, I promptly reported this incident. Interestingly, this call came right after I had posted about a different number, highlighting the ongoing issue of harassment.

Following a call from this number, which appeared as AEP on my phone, I returned the call, and although the automated system seemed legitimate, the agent was unhelpful and unable to provide any information regarding the purpose of the call, leading me to suspect a potential scam

A woman contacted me, claiming to be about my AEP account, and provided my address and phone number. She instructed me to call this number to settle my bill, which was already up to date. Thankfully, I looked up the number and discovered it was a scam.

A recent call from this number claimed my electric would be cut off, however, this is likley a spoofing scam as AEP doesnt operate in my area, aparently

I was warned that our business's electricity would be cut off within 30 minutes due to non-payment, allegedly by someone from AEP, which turned out to be a false claim.

Scammers using a spoofed number claimed to be from AEP, threatening to shut off power unless payment arrangements were made, despite our account being up to date

A second call was received, threatening to shut off my electric service within 30 minutes.

Although this is a legit AEP number, alot of these calls are probable scams, i've been recieving them for a week now, once a day, and they always hang up around 10-12 seconds into the voice announcement.

A recording claimed I was eligible for a discount if I hadn't missed a payment, but instead of responding, I hung up and contacted AEP directly, as it seemed like a spoofed number attempting to gather personal info

The intention behind this call was to scam people into lowering their bills.

Unfortunately, I fell victim to a scam when I received a call claiming my power would be shut off at my request, and I naively provided my address and SS# associated with the account.
