Opinione dell’esperto
Beware of calls from 800‑672‑2231 that claim to be AEP. These messages often sound like outage warnings or urgent payment demands, but the number is frequently spoofed and used for a scam. Never share your account number, SSN, or payment details to an unsolicited caller. Hang up, then call the official AEP customer‑service line listed on your bill or the company’s website to confirm any alerts. Use call‑blocking apps and report the number to the FTC or your phone carrier. Keeping a log of call times can also help investigators track fraudulent patterns. If you receive a recorded message about power shut‑off within minutes, treat it as suspicious and verify through the utility’s portal. Updating your caller ID settings can further reduce spoofed calls.

The lack of explanation or notes in their system regarding my account or outages was alarming. Following the unfruitful conversation, I promptly reported this incident. Interestingly, this call came right after I had posted about a different number, highlighting the ongoing issue of harassment.
