The caller claimed to be from Microsoft, but I'm skeptical of their intentions

Expert Opinion
Block unknown numbers right away to reduce nuisance calls. When a caller claims to be from Microsoft or any tech giant, ask for a callback number and verify it on the official website before sharing any info. Never grant remote access to strangers; legitimate support never initiates unsolicited connections. If the call sounds like a scam—pressure tactics, vague error reports, or threats to shut down your internet—hang up and report the number to your carrier or the FTC. Keep a log of repeated calls; patterns can help filter future spam and protect your devices.

The caller claimed my computer was sending reports to Windows and asked if I had checked it recently. I informed him that I would be reporting this number to the FTC as it was clearly a scam, and then I ended the call.
