The pattern matches a classic telemarketing script: immediate request for an account holder, repeated callbacks, and aggressive follow‑up when declined. Callers often spoof a familiar company name to gain trust, then switch to a vague "APG" or "AEP" label when challenged. To protect yourself, let unknown numbers go to voicemail, verify any claims through the official utility’s customer service number, and add the offending line to a call‑blocking list or your phone’s spam filter. When in doubt, record the exchange and report it to the FTC or your state’s consumer protection agency.
They called and didnt leave a message. Although i dont know who it is, i wanted to share some usefull information... I have an account with AEP, and according to their website, they never call customers regarding their accounts, so it's unlikely to be them. If i can identify the caller, i'll update my coment.
A person claiming to be from American Electric Power contacted me, but i knew it was a scam and didnt provide any informations

My business also received a call from this number, which appeared to be an auto-dial. When I heard the click and background noise, I hung up, and they called back, but I let it go to voicemail. No message was left

In a span of one minute, this number called me three times, filling up my voicemail with unwanted messages. The audacity of these callers is appalling.
When the caller rang to speak with the business owner and was told they were unavailable, they became agressive and pushy, mentionning our current eletric company, but when asked if they were from that company, they denied it and quickly claimed to be from AEP, it was a very rude telemarketing experiance.

A woman, claiming to represent AEP, called and asked for my husband by his formal name, then requested to speak to the next person in charge, revealing her true intentions when confronted with the fact that AEP is not our electric company.
