Watch out for any unsolicited call claiming to represent a utility like AEP and offering mysterious savings. These tactics are classic social engineering tricks that prey on homeowners' desire to cut bills. Verify the caller by hanging up and dialing the official company number from your bill—not the number they provide. Never share personal or payment information over the phone unless you initiated the contact and are certain of the identity. If you suspect a scam, report the number to your local consumer protection agency and block it on your phone. Staying skeptical and double‑checking credentials keeps you safe.
