These calls are classic robocalls used for internal staff notifications, not scams, but they can be intrusive and often bypass standard call‑blocking. If you receive such a call and aren’t an employee, let the call run out and then request removal from the bureau’s call list by contacting the specific prison’s administration. For legitimate employees, follow the official protocol provided by your agency and avoid sharing personal codes over the phone.
In our situation, the call was to inform my husband, who works at a federal prison, to report to work asap, and a second call was made to notify him that they had recieved enough staff response.
The caller ID showed a number from Washington, DC, it said to call back at 800 906-4002 to retrive a mesage
According to the message, this is a recorded call from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons' notification center; to stop the calls, one can contact their local federal prison
