I received a similar message, supposedly from a volunteer named Mary, working with Gov. Gavin Newsom, which seems like a phishing attempt.

Expert Opinion
On a breezy Thursday evening, my phone lit up with yet another text claiming to be a Gov. Gavin Newsom volunteer. The pattern across dozens of reports points to a coordinated political spam campaign that masquerades as grassroots outreach, often using assorted names and vague volunteer requests. Recipients should treat any unsolicited political message as suspect: avoid clicking links, verify the sender through official campaign channels, and use your carrier’s block feature. Reporting the number to the FCC or your state’s consumer protection office can help curb future attempts. Staying skeptical protects both your data and your peace of mind.
